Clyde returned to the promotion playoff spots in the Scottish League Two last season, but once again they fell at the final hurdle as 4th placed Queen’s Park beat them 3-2 on aggregate to move up in the Scottish football system. For Clyde, it’s at least another season in the 4th tier of Scottish football.

Their form in the second half of the season was very impressive though, barring a rough run of five games without a win in March and April. Including their playoff defeat, they have won 11, drawn three, and lost five of their last 19 matches in League Two, including winning four of their last five.

The League Two outfit will feel they have an outside chance of progressing in the revamped Scottish League Cup format. They must finish either top of their group or be one of the four best 2nd place finishers, and with their group consisting of Kilmarnock, Berwick Rangers, Greenock Morton, and Albion Rovers that can’t be considered an impossibility.

Saturday will be their toughest test though. Kilmarnock may have come close to relegation last season, but they are still top flight opposition and on a different plain of quality to Clyde.

Kilmarnock eventually finished 2nd from bottom in the Scottish Premiership last term, and after they lost the away leg of their relegation playoff 1-0 to Falkirk the future looked bleak for them. However, they turned it around with an emphatic 4-0 win at home to remain in the top tier.

They will still be disappointed with their continued decline though. They have dropped positions in each of the last three Premiership seasons, and if they drop any more this season they will be plying their trade in the Championship within the next 12 months.

Clyde haven’t looked particularly impressive in their pre-season friendlies though, losing against both Airdrieonians and Dunfermline. Kilmarnock, when they eventually win, generally do it with style too. Each of their last four victories have been by more than a single goal, which includes two 4-0 thrashings. Clyde have recently lost 4-1 to Airdrieonians and 3-1 to Queen’s Park too, so I think this could be a long afternoon for them.

My prediction is for a Kilmarnock -1 Handicap Win at 6/5, and I’m backing that alongside a 3-0 correct score prediction at 9/1.

Saturday will be the first competitive meeting between these sides.

100% of Kilmarnock's last four victories have been by more than a single goal margin.
