FC Twente of the Dutch Eredivisie finished a disappointing and unsurprising 13th in their 2015/2016 season. Twente have found themselves in much financial trouble over recent years, with the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) being forced to deduct 6 points from them during the 2014/2015 season and again forced to declare its intent to relegate the side in May 2016 – a decision that was later overturned by appeal. Twente’s 2009/10 Eredivisie title under Steve McClaren feels like a distant dream amidst all the controversy and their preseason preparation indicates their struggle is likely to continue.

Southampton, under their new manager Claude Puel, who replaced Ronald Koeman after he departed for the managerial position at Everton, were convincing in their 4-0 club friendly win over Dutch side PEC Zwolle on Saturday. Puel left out Fraser Forster, Ryan Bertrand, Steven Davis and Shane Long, as they had only returned for preseason training during the week. Puel stated later that these players were likely to feature in the following friendly, against FC Twente, alongside Dusan Tadic. While Southampton will be without Graziano Pelle, who heads off to join Chinese side Shandong Luneng, they will be boosted with the arrival of Nathan Redmond from Norwich and Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg from Bayern Munich.

Southampton have continued to look impressive in their preseason and, with Puel verbally committing to integrate some of the star name players for this match, we can’t see struggling Twente bring too much of an obstacle for them. Southampton have scored 4 goals in four of their last five matches across all competitions so we know they are capable and we expect plenty more in this match.

Combining this analysis with the statistics below, we expect Southampton to win at 3/5 to be a safe bet and Southampton to win 4-0 at 22/1 with bet365 to be a top value correct score bet for this match.

This match represents the first time the two sides will meet.

Southampton have scored 4 goals in four of their last four matches, winning 4-0 in their friendly against PEC Zwolle most recently. Twente have lost to nil in two of their three preseason friendlies so far this summer.

Twente have signed both Ghana youth international Yaw Yeboah and Turkish prodigy Enes Unal on season-long loans from Manchester City this summer.

Southampton were without Fraser Forster, Ryan Bertrand, Steven Davis and Shane Long and Dusan Tadic in their last club friendly against PEC Zwolle. Transfer wise Southampton have brought in Nathan Redmond from Norwich while saying goodbye to Sadio Mane, who signed for Liverpool, Victor Wanyama, who signed for Tottenham, and Graziano Pelle who was swooned by money from China.
