Queen’s Park’s season went better than they could have hoped for last year as they earned promotion to the Scottish League One for the first time since 2009. They only finished 4th in Scottish League Two but managed to beat both Cowdenbeath and Clyde in the playoffs to secure a spot in the 3rd tier.

Now, due to the reformatted version of the Scottish League Cup, they have a chance to test their mettle against some higher quality opposition in preparation for their foray into Scottish League One. They will have to finish above two of either Partick Thistle, Queen of the South, Airdrieonians, or Stenhousemuir in order to stand a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.

Queen’s Park’s form didn’t look overly impressive towards the back end of last season though. They managed just four wins from their final ten outings in all competitions, losing three times as well.

Queen of the South had a bit of a disappointing campaign in relation to their previous seasons. After finishing 4th in the Scottish Championship two seasons running, they could only manage a 7th place finish last season and eventually finished 20 points behind 4th place finishers Raith Rovers. Their 42 point tally at the end of the campaign was 18 points fewer than they managed in the 2014/15 season.

This is largely down to a shocking second half of the season for them. They won just two of their final 11 matches in the Scottish Championship and lost seven times, which won’t be great for confidence as they come into the new season.

Queen of the South have tried to boost their morale though with four straight friendly victories which have seen them score an impressive 17 goals. This follows on from their goal-friendly nature in the competitive season. There were a huge 43 goals scored in their final ten games of the season, with both teams getting on the scoresheet in eight of these games and more than two goals being scored in eight as well.

Queen’s Park have found the net in six of their last eight competitive matches on home turf as well, so I think we could be in for a high scoring match on Saturday thanks to the visitors dodgy defence and excellent attack. My prediction is for Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score, which comes in at an attractive 5/6. I’m also going for a 2-2 correct score prediction at 11/1.

Queen of the South and Queen's Park have each won two, drawn one, and lost two of their last five meetings.

80% of Queen of the South's last ten matches have seen Over 2.5 Goals and both teams score.
