Survival in the Premier League is the clear mandate given to Tony Pulis by the board at the Hawthorns and the Welshman has a proven track record of achieving that aim. Pulis has spent much of the summer holding on to the spine of his team with both Saido Berahino and Jonny Evans linked with moves away but he is also keen to bring in re-inforcements. A deal for West Ham’s Diafro Sakho is in the pipeline and that could signal the end of Berahino as a West Brom player.

Torquay have had a rough ride in the summer after a takeover deal that had been rumbling on for months finally to appears to have fallen through. Gaming International wanted to build a new stadium on the outskirts of the town and redevelop Plainmoor but they failed to agree a deal to purchase the freehold of the current ground so pulled the plug on the whole deal. On the field The Gulls are about to lose their rock at the back as captain Angus MacDonald looks set to complete a move to Barnsley.

West Brom sit several levels above Torquay and will face the club at a time when The Gulls are in a small amount of turmoil. The Baggies should win this match with something to spare and you can get West Brom to be leading at half time at 4/5 with bet365. Pulis prides himself on a strong defence and we can’t see Torquay being able to breach it so a 2-0 correct scoreline at 11/2 with bet365 looks good value to us.

There has only ever been three meetings between these two sides and West Brom just have the better of the head to head with two victories to one. The sides haven't met since 1992 where Torquay took the spoils with a 1-0 win. Interestingly the home side has won on all three meetings.

Typical of a Tony Pulis team, West Brom scored 35% of their goals from set pieces last season.

Torquay United's captain Angus MacDonald is expected to miss the match as he wraps up a deal to sign for Championship side Barnsley.

Jonny Evans is expected to feature despite talk linking him with Arsenal although it remains to be seen if Saido Berahino plays as clubs continue to fight over his signature.
