This season was always going to be a struggle for Wexford Youths. They were promoted to the League of Ireland Premier Division for the first time in their history last season, and so far they have struggled as expected, but they haven’t disgraced themselves by any means.

They are still in with a good chance of fending off relegation, with their 15 point tally from their first 20 games putting them in the relegation playoff position of 11th with a two point gap to make up before they reach the safety of 10th place. They have a six point lead on the dreadful Longford Town as well, so they will feel confident in their chances of avoiding an automatic drop back down the ranks.

Confidence in the Wexford Youth’s camp will have improved too after their 1-0 win against Finn Harps on Friday, thus ending their six match losing streak and giving them a valuable boost in morale. A win on Monday could lift them into the safe zone, which would further improve spirits in the camp.

A win isn’t out of the question by any means. St. Patrick’s Athletic may have finished in the top four of the Premier Division last season, but this season isn’t going to plan. They have won just one of their last seven in all competitions, losing five times. This includes their Europa League exit on Thursday after a 2-1 aggregate loss to Dinamo Minsk.

In the Premier Division they have now lost four matches on the bounce, which has seen them drop down to 7th in the table. They are just eight points better off than Wexford Youths at this point.

Away from home they St. Patrick’s Athletic struggle even more, with five defeats in their last six games making for poor reading for the visiting fans. Wexford Youths have avoided defeat in three of their last six at home in the league as well, so my prediction is for the hosts to get something from this match. It’s touch and go whether they’ll be able to get a win though, so I’m backing a Wexford Youths Win or Draw Double Chance at 5/6 alongside a 1-1 correct score prediction at 11/2.

St. Patrick's Athletic have won all three of their previous meetings with Wexford Youths.

St. Patrick's Athletic have lost 83% of their last six trips away from home in the league, whilst Wexford Youths have avoided defeat in half of their last six at home.

Striker Paul Murphy is Wexford Youth's only absentee after he was sent off against Galway United.

Attacking midfielder Jack Bayly is still out with a thigh injury he sustained in February, whilst central midfielder David Cawley is suspended.
