Wycombe are a lower league side with some genuine cup pedigree. They’ve reached the Semi-Finals of both the FA Cup and League Cup this century and forced top flight Aston Villa to a replay in the FA Cup as recently as January. It is though 5 years since they made it past the 1st Round of this competition.

Their league season got going at the weekend with a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Crawley and they’ll be hoping for better as they step out at Adams Park for the first time this term. They haven’t won any game, competitive or non-competitive since March though but have drawn more games than they’ve lost over that period and will be hoping they can find an extra gear of two against stronger opposition again here.

Bristol City are being tipped as darkhorses to challenge for a play-off spot in the Championship this season having beaten the drop relatively comfortably in the end last year. They got off to a good start beating newly promoted Wigan 2-1 at the weekend although they were trailing going into the final 10 minutes at Ashton Gate. Bobby Reid’s late goal sealed the game and they head into this match with a real spring in their step.

This is likely to be a very different team though with the League Cup 1st Round not of huge importance to them and this will give some of their fringe players a chance to impress. Bristol City have lost 7 of their last 9 League Cup ties and have exited the competition at the hands of League 2 opposition in the 1st Round in each of the last two seasons.

The only recent meeting was in the 2013/14 EFL Trophy. Wycombe won 2-1. The previous meeting was a League Cup tie in 2004 won by Bristol City.

4 of Wycombe's last 5 home games have ended in draws and that includes two home friendlies against Championship clubs. Bristol City have been knocked out in the 1st Round in 6 of the last 7 seasons.

Myles Weston is set to miss out following an injury on Saturday. Matt Bloomfield could fill the void.

Bristol City's two goals at the weekend came from substitutes. Abraham and Reid who got the goals could start here with other changes likely too.
