Oxford manager Michael Appleton will have Christian Ribeiro available for the visit of Bolton on Tuesday, live on Sky Sports 1.

The defender was left out of their 2-1 victory over promotion-chasing Scunthorpe on Saturday due to a hip problem but will return to the matchday squad.

Midfielder Ryan Ledson misses out as he is away on international duty with the England Under-20 squad.

Appleton could make changes to his starting line-up as the U's prepare for four games in 13 days, including the Checkatrade Trophy final at Wembley on April 2.

Jay Spearing could be back in contention to start for Bolton.

The former Liverpool midfielder returned after three games out with a knee injury as a late substitute in Saturday's victory over Northampton.

It had initially been feared Spearing could miss the rest of the season but he underlined his speedy return to fitness by playing a part in Filipe Morais' winning goal.

The Trotters have no new injury or suspension concerns as they look to extend the three-game winning run that has pushed them into the automatic promotion places.

Both of these sides kept their relative promotion dreams alive on Saturday. Oxford did well to see off 5th place Scunthorpe, while Bolton fought back late in the day to get the better of a relegation-threatened Swindon side. Having won last time out, both teams are likely to be confident here.

Quite frankly, we’re talking about two decent sides. On their day, both Oxford and Bolton are capable of mixing it with the very best in this division. Keeping this in mind, a case could probably be made for both. However, rather than siding with either team, the bet that catches the eye is ‘Both Teams to Score’.

Bolton will be fancied by many to occupy that all-important second automatic promotion spot come May, but, if they’re going to do so, they really need to stop conceding goals. In recent weeks, although they’ve looked particularly strong going forward, Phil Parkinson’s men have often slipped up at the back, conceding in four of their last five and eight of their last ten. Against an Oxford side who’ve been known to come on strong at home, the visitors could once again find it hard to keep a clean sheet.

In recent weeks, Oxford have found themselves in a similar position. Michael Appleton’s men are very good going forward, particularly at the Kassam but, with no shutouts in their last five, have been slightly suspect at the back. Both teams have scored in each of the last four Oxford matches and it would be no surprise if the hosts both scored and conceded for a fifth game in a row.

Neither side are short of attacking talent and what with this pair both likely to be going for it given they’re both firmly still in with a shot of achieving their objectives, goals at both ends are anticipated here.

In a match that really could go either way, both Oxford and Bolton are expected to register at least once on the score-sheet.

Head To Head
These two teams have only previously met on three occasions. They’ve twice finished all-square, while Oxford won the reverse fixture this season by two goals to nil.

Oxford United vs Bolton Stats
