Bayern Munich vs AC Milan International Champions Cup Match Preview And Prediction - July 28, 2016

Bayern Munich began life without Pep Guardiola earlier in July as Carlo Ancelotto took the reins, and it’s been a fairly successful pre-season for the Italian so far. They beat Lippstadt 08 4-3 in his opening game in charge, following that with a triumph over former boss Guardiola in a 1-0 win against Manchester City. A 3-0 win against Landshut followed, and they now face International Champions Cup games against AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid.

Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win over Landshut made it six wins and two draws from their last eight games in all competitions, including their draw and subsequent penalty victory over Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Pokal Final.

However, their squad is severely depleted at the moment thanks to many of their players’ participations in Euro 2016. Big names missing include Manuel Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski, and new signings Renato Sanches and Mats Hummels. The likes of Franck Ribery, Thiago, and Arturo Vidal are still there though, so there isn’t a lack of talent in their ranks.

AC Milan will be travelling with an almost full strength squad though. Mattia De Sciglio and Carlos Bacca have been left behind because of apparent fitness concerns, but it’s thought that it’s because of their ongoing transfer sagas. Apart from that they will have an almost fully present squad with them in America.

But the Italians are nowhere near the force they once were though. They finished 7th in Serie A last season and have only won three of their last 13 matches in all competitions. This includes a Coppa Italia Final defeat to Juventus and a hard fought victory over the declining Bordeaux in their first and only pre-season friendly so far.

Even without a full strength squad I can see Bayern Munich doing well on Wednesday night. They still have an abundance of talent in midfield and an excellent manager at the helm. Philip Lahm is still present as well, and the youngsters involved will be keen to put themselves on Ancellotti’s radar while they have the chance. My prediction is for Bayern Munich to Win this one, and odds of 4/6 look fair for that. I’m backing a 2-0 correct score prediction at 8/1 as well.

Bayern Munich have won three, drawn two, and lost four of their nine historic meetings with AC Milan.

Bayern Munich have won 75% of their last 20 games, whilst AC Milan have lost 46% of their last 13.

Centre back Jerome Boateng and wingers Arjen Robben and Douglas Costa are all out injures, New signings Mats Hummels and Renato Sanches haven't been included in the squad after their Euro 2016 efforts, nor have the likes of Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer, Javi Martinez, or Kingsley Coman.

Defensive midfielder Ricardo Montolivo is out injured, whilst Carlos Bacca has been left out amid talks with West Ham over a potential transfer. Mattia De Sciglio has also been left behind.
