A late surge from Varnamo last season saved them from getting dragged into an inescapable relegation battle in the Sweden Superettan, and so far this season it looks like they will be capable of avoiding the troublesome relegation spots all together.
They come into gameweek 15 in 6th position in the Superettan with 22 points from their opening 14 games. This puts them nine points clear of the first of the relegation playoff spots and just five points adrift of a potential promotion playoff.
Varnamo didn’t do themselves any favours last week when they succumbed to a 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Superettan leaders Halmstad though, a result which made it two wins, two defeats, and one draw from their last five matches.
They will need to pick themselves up from this setback swiftly if they want to get anything from this match, because their opponents are in excellent form.
Dalkurd shot to prominence in Swedish football when they achieved five straight promotions straight after their formation in 2005, but the spotlight faded off them as they settled down in the 3rd tier of Swedish football for six years.
That is until they were promoted last season as champions of the Norra Division 1. Their first foray into the Superettan has gone extremely well so far as well. They come into this match in a very promising 4th position, and a victory on Saturday could send them as high as 2nd and to within a point of the top spot depending on the result of AFC United vs Halmstad.
Dalkurd are in excellent form coming into the game as well. They have lost just two games all season and are currently enjoying a nine match unbeaten streak in which they have picked up 19 points, making them one of the most in form teams in the league.
I’m predicting this one to be a tight game, but both sides are in good form and it should result in a good match. Dalkurd have netted in each of their last five matches and in all but two of their away days this season, whilst Varnamo have found the net in their last five home matches as well. This sort of attacking form should see both sides find the net at least once, so my prediction is for both teams to score at 4/5. In the end I think it will be a stalemate though, so I’m going for a 1-1 correct score prediction at 5/1.
