Inter Milan vs Bayern Munich International Champions Cup Match Preview And Prediction - July 31, 2016

Inter Milan began their International Champions Cup campaign last weekend as they faced off against Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain. Inter’s defence struggled to cope with Paris Saint Germain’s marauding full backs, and the Frenchmen struck first when Serge Aurier netted a 14th minute opener. Stefan Jovetic pulled them back level with a penalty on the stroke of half time, but next up it was the turn of PSG’s left back Layvin Kurzawa to score. Aurier added his second of the day three minutes before time to resign Inter Milan to defeat.

This defeat followed on from a run of three previous friendlies which saw Inter Milan win one, draw one, and lose one, and they have since drawn a 2nd friendly when they faced Estudiantes on Thursday.

This makes it two wins, two draws, and three defeats in Inter Milan’s last seven matches, and they will be hoping to get another few wins under their belts to improve confidence ahead of the start of the Serie A season in August.

Bayern Munich began their own International Champions Cup run when they faced Inter Milan’s fierce rivals AC Milan on Thursday. First half goals from Franck Ribery and David Alaba put Bayern Munich ahead after AC Milan’s opener, but Milan responded with two second half goals, which left Bayern Munich trailing. Ribery managed to grab the equaliser with a 90th minute penalty though, only for AC Milan to go on to win 5-3 on penalties.

This ended Bayern Munich’s eight match unbeaten streak, which includes friendly victories over Lippstadt, Manchester City, and Landshut as well as a DFB Pokal triumph over Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern Munich showed that they struggle at the back without their first choice defensive options. Manuel Neuer and Jerome Boateng have both been left at home, whilst Javi Martinez and new signing Mats Hummels aren’t present either. This leaves them very open to conceding goals, and considering Inter Milan have scored in 13 of their last 16 matches I would expect them to find the net again on Saturday.

Inter Milan have only kept three clean sheets in these 16 matches as well though, and the likes of Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery provide genuine attacking threat from Bayern Munich, who have failed to score just twice in their last 20 matches.

My prediction is for both teams to score on Saturday, and odds of 8/11 for this outcome look good value considering the poor defensive record of Inter Milan and the overall low stakes of the match. I’m going for a 3-1 Bayern Munich Win at 12/1 for my correct score prediction as well.

Bayern Munich have won three, drawn one, and lost one of their six meetings with Inter Milan, with the last competitive meeting being in the 2010/11 Champions League.

Both teams have scored in 69% of Inter Milan's last 16 games.

Ever Banega, Jeison Murillo, Ivan Perisic, Marcelo Brozovic, Eder, and Eloge Yao are not expected to play any part on Saturday.

Centre back Jerome Boateng and wingers Arjen Robben and Douglas Costa are all out injures, New signings Mats Hummels and Renato Sanches haven't been included in the squad after their Euro 2016 efforts, nor have the likes of Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer, Javi Martinez, or Kingsley Coman.
