Dinamo Zagreb vs Dinamo Tbilisi Champions League Match Preview And Prediction - July 27, 2016

Dinamo Zagreb strolled to the Croatian First League title again last season, beating off 2nd placed Rjeka by an eight point margin and ending the season 24 points ahead of 3rd placed Hajduk Split.

Their dominance in the Croatian ranks make them regulars in the Champions League qualification process, and they have managed to make it as far as the group stages in three of their last six outings in Europe’s elite competition. Last season saw them end bottom of their group as they contested with the likes of Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Olympiakos, and generally they make it to the Europa League group stages if they miss out in the Champions League.

With Dinamo Zagreb being so much further on than their opponents in the Croatian top flight, it goes without saying that their form record is impressive. They have won 13 of their last 15 matches in all competitions and lost none. This includes a relatively comfortable 5-3 aggregate win over Vardar in the Champions League 2nd qualifying round, but the two goals from Marko Pjaca during this tie will be missed after his transfer to Juventus.

Dinamo Tbilisi are also regulars in European football, but they rarely make it much further than this stage. They have only made it to the group stages of any European competition once – A 2004/05 appearance in the UEFA Cup groups, and in the Champions League they have never made it further than the 3rd Qualifying Round.

They strolled to league success last season though and ended with a 13 point lead over 2nd placed Samtredia and their 3-1 aggregate win over Alashkert in the Champions League 2nd Qualifying Round was an early season success for them.

However, Dinamo Zagreb are an entirely different prospect. The Croatian champions are a much better side than Dinamo Tbilisi, even without the departed Pjaca, and they will be fully expected to win on Tuesday. My prediction is for their victory to be comfortable, so I’m backing a Dinamo Zagreb -1.5 Asian Handicap Win at 1.950 to go alongside a 3-0 correct score prediction at 15/2.

This will be the first meeting between these two sides.

Dinamo Zagreb have won 87% of their last 15 home games.

Dinamo Zagreb start life without the talented Marko Pjaca after his transfer to Juventus, and fellow winger Josip Brekalo has also moved on.

Holding midfielder Stefan Velev is sidelined for the visitors.
