Gremio come into the game in slightly the better mood though. They picked up an excellent 3-2 win over in-form Santos in midweek with Marcelo Hermes netting a last gasp winner for Gremio who had been pegged back to 2-2 having led 2-0. They were beaten on the road last weekend though going down 2-0 against Atletico PR and lost 2-1 at home to Vitoria prior to that so there are still doubts about Gremio.
Internacional have the more to worry about right now though. After a very strong start to the campaign they have picked up just 1 point from their last 4 fixtures. Defeats against Figueirense, Botafogo and Flamengo have really set them back and made them perhaps re-jig their ambitions for the current campaign. The 3-2 home defeat to newly promoted Botafogo was a real surprise given they are normally very tough to beat on home soil even against the strongest sides.
Because this is a derby, some will argue that the form book doesn’t count for as much but the fact that Inter have looked so uncharacteristically weak at the back of late is a factor. Gremio have some dangerous attacking players and are well capable of causing their rivals problems. Given Inter have never been a side that has scored a great deal of goals they struggle to win matches when their defence isn’t performing well which is certainly the case right now. Therefore backing Double Chance – Draw or Gremio at 8/11 looks like the way to go here.
