Vitória vs Santos Brasileiro Serie A Match Preview And Prediction - July 25, 2016

Santos come into the game looking pretty good and certainly well placed to challenge for, at the very least, Libertadores places this season. They are in 4th currently and have taken 7 points from their last 3 games. That includes two convincing home wins while they became the first side to deny leaders Palmeiras maximum points on their home ground the week before last. Youngsters Gabriel and Vitor Bueno are looking really good in attack and only Palmeiras have scored more goals than Santos this season.

Vitoria have made a good start to the season too though and they’re currently out-performing the other newly promoted clubs. They are winless in 5 matches overall and lost both legs of their Copa do Brasil tie with Cruzeiro but come into this match unbeaten in 6 in the league and they have caused the top sides some problems with victories over Corinthians and Gremio already to their name this term. They are 4 points above the relegation zone currently and certainly look to have enough about them to stave off the threat of an immediate return to Serie B.

The bookies are struggling to split the sides here and the draw certainly can’t be ruled out given no side has drawn more matches than Vitoria this season. Their inability to turn 1 point into 3 is the main reason they aren’t higher up. Santos were woeful away from home last season, winning just once but they look to have put those demons behind them with impressive away victories at Santa Cruz and Fluminense and that draw at Palmeiras when they had chances to win the game in the latter stages.

They look an impressive all-round unit now and have the bit of magic up front that could settle what is likely to be a tight encounter. Therefore consider backing Santos Draw No Bet at 4/5.

Santos did the double over Vitoria the last time the Salvador club were in the top flight and they've won 3 of the last 4 meetings.

Both teams have scored in 71% of Vitoria home games this season and 50% of Santos away matches.

Forward Marinho is suspended but Serginho is a new option in midfield after he joined on loan.

Santos are missing Gabriel, Zeca and Thiago Maia, who are all with the Brazil squad getting ready for the Olympics. Jonathan Copete should start up front.
