FC Midtjylland vs FC Vaduz Europa League Match Preview And Prediction - July 14, 2016

This will be the first meeting between Midtjylland and Vaduz, Midtjylland have won 89% of their last nine home matches, Defensive midfielder Tim Sparv and striker Marcos Urena are both out injured.

Left back duo Maximilian Goppel and Franz Burgmeier, right winger Ali Messaoud, and striker Yones Felfel are all sidelined.

Midtjylland enjoyed their best ever season in Europe last season as they made it all the way to the knockout stages of the Europa League. They were eliminated from Champions League qualification by APOEL, but then managed to knock out Southampton in the Europa League playoff before finishing ahead of Club Brugge and Legia Warsaw in the group stages. They then beat Manchester United at home in the first leg of their knockout match, but unfortunately they couldn’t hold their lead at Old Trafford as they slumped to a 5-1 defeat.

Their domestic season didn’t go quite as well last term though, with their 3rd place finish in the Danish Superliga meaning they entered the Europa League in the 1st qualifying round. They managed to beat Suduva 1-0 in both legs of that tie though to make it to this stage.

Midtjylland are in excellent form at the moment too. They have won their last seven matches on the bounce and are unbeaten in 12 outings, although most of the recent fixtures have been pre-season friendlies ahead of the start of the new Danish domestic season this weekend.

Vaduz will have to wait a bit longer to resume domestic duties. The Swiss Super League season started on the 24th of July, and they will be aiming to improve on their 8th place finish last season. They made it to the Europa League by winning the Liechtenstein Cup.

Their first qualifying round tie saw them beat Sileks 5-2 on aggregate, but this will be their toughest 2nd qualifying round fixture since they were beaten by Brondby in 2010.

Midtjylland are a really good side for this stage in the competition, and their Europa League fixture against Suduva will have granted them some much needed match fitness. The only team they have lost to in their last six home Europa League ties has been Napoli, with Southampton, Legia Warsaw, Manchester United, and Suduva all falling to defeat in Denmark.

I’m expecting them to begin building an aggregate lead on Thursday, so my prediction is for a Midtjylland -1.0 Asian Handicap Win at 1.925 to go alongside a 2-0 correct score prediction at 13/2.
