Vojvodina have become regulars in Europe after their seven year hiatus at the beginning of the millennium. They have qualified for Europe in all but one season since the 2007/08 campaign, but they haven’t managed to make it to the group stages in any one of those seasons.
Last season saw them knocked out in the playoff round to Viktoria Plzen after a 5-0 aggregate defeat, but the seven before AS Trencin knocked them out in the 2nd qualifying round. The hosts may be regulars of the Europa League, but they struggle to make it very far in the competition.
It’s generally the away fixtures that trip Vojvodina up though. They have only lost two of their last 12 home games in the Europa League, and those were against Sampdoria and Viktoria Plzen. Seven of these 12 matches have ended in victory too, so they will certainly feel confident about the first leg of this tie.
Overall Vojvodina’s form is looking pretty good too. They have won seven of their last 11 in all competitions and only lost twice, taking them to a 4th place finish in last season’s Serbian Super Liga.
Connah’s Quay don’t have any of the European experience that their hosts have. Their 4th place finish in the Welsh Premier League last season was the biggest achievement in their history, with the rewards being an entrance into the Europa League 1st qualifying round. They knocked out the out of form Stabaek 1-0 on aggregate in their first ever continental tie, and now they will be looking towards taking their maiden Europa League voyage as far as possible.
In all honesty though, it’s unlikely to go much further than this. Vojvodina showed their class on home turf last time out with a 5-0 thrashing of Bokelj, and they have now won three of their last four home games by more than a single goal. In the Europa League they have won four of their last six at home by two goals or more, so my prediction is for a Vojvodina -1.5 Asian Handicap Win at 1.700 to go alongside a 3-0 correct score prediction at 6/1.
