Hapoel Beer Sheva vs Sheriff Tiraspol Champions League Football Match Preview And Prediction - July 13, 2016

Hapeol Be’er Sheva won the Israeli league for the first time in 40 years last season so this is a huge occasion for them as they make their Champions League bow. They’ve not played competitively since May when they beat Bnei Sakhnin 3-1 to clinch the title finishing 2 points clear of Maccabi Tel Aviv. They were beaten 1-0 by Maccabi in their opening home league game last season but didn’t lose any of the following 17 so they tend to play with real confidence at the Arthur Vasermil Stadium and come into this game as favourites.

The Israeli league is certainly stronger than the Moldovan top flight which Sheriff won last year thanks to a play-off win over Dacia after the two sides finished level on points. They have been more regular participants in European competition and have had a fair amount of success in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League although they’ve never reached the group phase. They’ve come through the 1st hurdle in all of their last 13 participations in it, which is an impressive record but they will have to be at their best to continue it over 2 legs against Hapoel.

If the Israelis can handle the occasion, they should win this game. To pip a strong Maccabi Tel Aviv side, who made the Champions League group stage last year, to the league title shows they are a good side and they’ve impressed in the build up to this game, winning 3 friendlies in Poland. Sheriff lost 2-1 to Russian side Tom’ Tomsk in their only friendly and will most likely come here with a cautious approach and a plan to stay in the tie ahead of the 2nd leg.

Hapeol should have enough quality to break them down though and you can back Hapoel Be’er Sheva to Win at 4/5.

Few personnel changes so far this summer. A similar eleven to the one that clinched the title in May is expected.

Sheriff can welcome back Brazilian forward Ricardinho here. He spent the second half of last season in UAE but netted 20 goals in 23 games for the Moldovans in the 2014-15 season so will be a big boost to their attacking options.
