After a fairly bright start to the Swedish Superettan season saw Varberg win two and draw one of their opening four games they suffered a major dip in form. They endured a miserable five match winless streak in which they lost twice, and it threw their hopes of improving on their 5th place finish last season into doubt.
But they have recovered from this blip extremely well and come into this match having won five matches on the bounce, which has pushed them into the 5th place spot they ended in last term. They are only two points outside of the promotion playoff positions as well, and a win on Saturday could send them up to 2nd if they’re lucky. Below them only Varnamo can dislodge them from 5th position.
Trelleborg are having a decent season themselves after achieving promotion back to the Superettan last season. They haven’t managed to put together any exceptional runs of form yet, but they are slowly ticking along and putting them in a good position to remain in the 2nd tier.
They did begin the season poorly though with just one win in their opening seven games, but since then they have won four, drawn one, and lost two of their seven Superettan matches and began to put some distance between themselves and the drop zone.
They currently occupy a comfortable 8th position with 19 points from their opening 14 games, six clear of the first of the relegation playoff positions and within reach of 6th placed Varnamo.
Away from home Trelleborg have struggled though. They have lost five of their six trips away so far this season and are coming up against a side in excellent form who have won four of their seven home matches and three on the bounce there as well.
My prediction is for Varberg’s winning streak to continue on Saturday, and odds of 19/20 for a Varberg win look excellent value for money. I’m also backing a 2-1 correct score prediction at 15/2.
