Valarenga are having a very poor season so far, and they under half the campaign remaining to try and turn it around. If they’re not careful they could well find themselves dragged into the relegation battle come the end of the season.
They currently occupy 13th place in the Norway Eliteserien table, level on points with Stabaek in the relegation playoff position and just two points outside the automatic drop spots. Above them are Tromso, who have a three point advantage over them.
Valarenga didn’t manage to find a victory last weekend, but a win at bottom placed Start is nothing to write home about and prior to that they have lost four and drawn three of their last seven Eliteserien matches. An improvement on last season’s 7th place finish looks very unlikely at this point, especially with 7th placed Viking already being 12 points clear of them.
Molde aren’t having the best of times either. They began the new campaign strongly as they looked to improve on their 6th place finish last season, winning four and drawing two of their opening six matches. It is that early season run of good form that is keeping them afloat at the moment, as they have lost five of their last seven league games and are winless in their last five outings.
This has seen them drop down to 8th in the Eliteserien table, seven points adrift of their preferred positioning in the top three of the table. They are only ten points above the relegation playoff position as well, so they need to break out of this winless streak soon.
Away from home Molde’s defensive record is shocking. They have conceded 16 goals in their last five league matches on the road and lost four of them. Even prior to their run of poor form they hadn’t kept a clean sheet on the road, so Valarenga have a real chance of netting a few goals on Monday.
The hosts have enjoyed some really good spells in front of goal at home. They have scored ten in their last six outings and home, with three of them seeing them find the net at least twice. My prediction is for them to have some luck again on Monday against a side who shipped four goals at Sogndal last time out. Odds of 6/5 for Valarenga Over 1.5 Team Goals look excellent value considering the visitors form, so I’m backing that alongside a 2-2 correct score prediction at 11/1.
Molde have won five and drawn two of their last seven matches against Valarenga and haven't lost any of their last ten encounters.
Molde have conceded at least two goals in 63% of their away games this season, including 100% of their last five trips away.
Defensive midfielder Samuel Fridjonsson is out with a knee injury.
