Olympiacos Piraeus vs Hapoel Be'er Sheva Champions League Match Preview And Prediction - July 28, 2016

Olympiakos dominated the Greek Super League yet again last season, beating their nearest challengers Panathinaikos to the title by a huge 30 points, with them dropping just five points all season and romping home to their 6th consecutive title and their 11th in the last 12 years.

It is this dominance that explains their regular appearances in the Champions League, and they generally do pretty well when they get there. They have participated in the group stages of Europe’s elite competition in each of the last six seasons, making the knockout stages twice and the knockout stages of the Europa League the other four times.

Their pre-season hasn’t gone particularly well though, with just two wins from their six outings. However, now their competitive season is beginning they will have their game heads back on, and it could be a long evening for Hapoel Be’er Sheva. The hosts have won nine of their last 11 home games in the Champions League, including victories over Benfica, Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Dinamo Zagreb.

Hapoel Be’er Sheva, on the other hand, have only played one Champions League match on home turf. That was this season in the 2nd qualifying round, where they beat Sheriff 3-2 before a 0-0 draw away from home to achieve victory in their debut Champions League tie.

The visitors managed to dislodge Maccabi Tel Aviv from the top of the Israeli Premier League last season bu a two point margin to qualify for their first ever Champions League, although they have taken part in the last two Europa League instalments. These haven’t exactly gone well though, with them being knocked out at the first time of asking in both seasons.

Honestly, I can’t see the Israeli side getting anything from this game. They have next to no European pedigree and their talents are lacking significantly when compared to Olympiakos’ squad. The Greeks have been formidable at home in Europe for years, as is evident by them scoring 16 goals in their last 11 home matches against teams of a much greater quality than Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

My prediction is for a very comfortable Olympiakos win on Wednesday, so I’m going for a Olympiakos -1.5 Asian Handicap win at 1.975, and I’m also backing a 3-0 correct score prediction at 7/1.

Wednesday will be the first meeting between Olympiakos and Hapoel Be'er Sheva.

Olympiakos have won 82% of their last 11 home games in the Champions League.

Holding midfielder Theofanis Trandaris is out with a cruciate ligament rupture.

Hapoel Be'er Sheva are expecting to have a fully fit squad on Wednesday.
