AGF vs Viborg Danish Superliga Match Preview And Prediction - July 22, 2016

AGF had a fairly successful, if a bit unspectacular first season back in the Danish Superliga last term. They were promoted the season before after finishing 2nd in the second flight and despite a few downturns in form on the way they managed a 10th place finish, clearing the relegation position by 19 points thanks to the addition of two extra teams to the top flight this season.

This season could see them more involved in the relegation battle if they’re not careful though thanks to the introduction of a relegation playoff style format of league.

AGF did manage to get off to a good start last weekend when they beat SonderjyskE 2-1 away from home to claim their first three points of the season, laying waste to people’s worries that they would struggle due to the fact they were winless in their last three pre-season friendlies. They have now lost just one of their last seven Superliga matches and have won four of them.

Viborg aren’t enjoying life as much as their opponents at the moment. They opened the new Danish domestic season with a 4-0 thrashing at home to Nodsjaelland to make it four defeats in a row, including club friendlies. In the Superliga they have lost five of their last seven and won the other two.

Despite their dismal end to the Superliga campaign they still managed to better AGF in terms of finishing position, ending in 8th after their return to the top flight and finishing four points better off than AGF.

Viborg have lost four of their last six away games in the Superliga and endured a torrid pre-season, whilst AGF have won three on the bounce at home in the Superliga and began their campaign with an impressive victory. Confidence in the home camp will be high, whereas the 4-0 defeat on the opening weekend of the season will have hurt Viborg. My prediction is for AGF to get the win on Friday, and odds of 1/1 look very good value to me. I’m also backing a 2-1 correct score prediction at 8/1.

Viborg have won four and drawn three of their last seven meetings with AGF.

AGF have won 57% of their last seven Danish Superliga games, whilst Viborg have lost 72% of their last seven in the league.

Centre forward Duncan is expected to miss out with a knee injury.

Centre back Jeroen Veldmate and winger Osama Akharraz are both out injured.
