OB have suffered a bit of decline over the past few years. They enjoyed a good period as they finished as runners up in the Danish Superliga three seasons running, but the last four seasons haven’t seen the same sort of success in Odense.
They finished in 7th position in the Superliga last term, which is a slight improvement on the 10th place finishes they battled to a few seasons ago. However, it won’t feel good enough for them, although they were only eight points off the top four in the end.
OB’s dip in form towards the end of the season caused them to drop down the table after a strong start. They lost four of their last six Superliga matches, and a number of poor results in pre-season friendlies gives them a record of three wins, two draws, and five defeats from their last ten matches.
Silkeborg earned a quick return to the top flight when they finished 2nd in the Danish 1st Division last season, and they only missed out on the top spot by a single point in the end. Now they face the much more difficult task of trying to stay in the Superliga.
As you would expect from a newly promoted side, Silkeborg’s form record looks very good. They have won seven of their last nine in all competitions and only lost once, a 2-1 defeat to Esbjerg in a pre-season friendly.
Despite this good form I’m not expecting them to do very well on Friday. They are playing a rejuvenated OB side who had some good periods last term, and my prediction is for the hosts to get the victory on Friday.
